Indeed, while many other law firms order expensive “full searches” from outside services, the Firm conducts direct, in-house searches of the relevant databases to produce a less-expensive and even more comprehensive search result – the base result of which is evaluated by attorneys. It appears that search firms do not use attorneys to analyze base results to determine what results are ultimately referred to attorneys. Indeed, when comparing law firms, potential clients should ask who does the initial analysis of which marks are potentially relevant – attorneys, paralegals or other so-called “search specialists”. Potential clients should also ask what the fees are for the outside search services and how long it takes to get those results.
